Gym and sports facility renovations

Abrita Construction supports renovations of gyms, sports facilities and recreation spaces in Montreal, the South Shore and the North Shore.

Surfaces and support spaces should suit their intended uses. Construction preparation considers equipment, users and the facility’s activity schedule.

What we take care of

  • Flooring replacement according to specifications
  • Reception, offices and support areas
  • Partitions and finishes in affected rooms
  • Coordination around equipment and continuing activities

Selecting surfaces for their intended use

Exercises, equipment loads and substrate condition affect flooring selection. Designer and manufacturer recommendations should guide preparation and installation. Substrate conditions, including moisture where relevant, should be reviewed before confirming the assembly.

Planning around activities

Moving equipment or vacating a room may require a preparation stage. Training periods, classes and bookings should be discussed with the operator. Installation and return-to-use times for materials also enter the reopening schedule.

Work at the National Institute of Sport

At the Olympic Park, Abrita replaced high-performance flooring in the athletes’ training room and added an epoxy vapour-barrier membrane to address a moisture issue. The project illustrates the importance of preparing the substrate before renewing a sports surface.

Frequently asked questions

Can the project cover flooring only?

Yes. Substrate condition, intended use and flooring specifications help define this scope.

Is sports equipment included?

Supply, relocation and installation should be specified separately. Interfaces with construction need to be known before work begins.

Can a facility remain partly open?

This depends on separation, access and the work. Phasing should be agreed with the operator according to continuing activities.
